Serving

Learn more about serving with Emmaus!

What do you mean by “Serving”?

We use the term “serving” for ministry opportunities within our church. (Certainly we want you to “serve” people outside the church; we use the term “missions” for those efforts to avoid confusion).

As part of our UP, IN, OUT model, “serving” fits in the IN category. We have found out that those who “serve” within the body are often those most on mission “out” of the church as well!

Why should I serve?

Serving alongside others helps you build relationships faster and gives you a chance to see God at work in amazing ways both behind the scenes and through changed lives. Plus, as we serve, we grow in faith through using our spiritual gifts and talents.

  • Spiritual Gifts - What has God spiritually gifted me to do?
  • Heart - What do I have a passion for and love to do
  • Abilities - What natural talents and skills do I have
  • Personality - Where does my personality best suit me to serve?
  • Experiences - What experiences have most shaped my life? How have these experiences prepared me to minister to others?

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. ... All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” - 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 11
